Virgil Van Dijk suggests he really likes news coming out of Liverpool yesterday

Virgil Van Dijk was one of several Liverpool players to react with joy to Joe Gomez’s new contract yesterday.

The Liverpool player extended his contract until 2027. And reacting to Gomez’s celebratory post on Instagram, Van Dijk showed his appreciation with a hands-making-love-heart emoji.

Also in the comments were Liverpool’s captain and vice-captain. Jordan Henderson decided that three emojis best summed his mood – clapping hands, fire and a love heart. While James Milner simply went for not one, but two fire symbols.

Elsewhere, legendary Liverpool centre-back Sami Hyypia showed his support with a pair of clapping hands. And former Reds teammate Dominic Solanke was also on the scene, posting a “Congrats bro” to Gomez.

Liverpool get their priorities sorted

Gomez’s new deal was said to be a priority for Liverpool this summer after seemingly concluding their incoming business.

They’ve wasted no time in making sure that things are done and dusted ahead of the new season.

After reports emerged yesterday afternoon that Gomez was close to signing a new deal, the whole thing was sorted mere hours later.

The Reds are reportedly still looking to tie down one or two players. Namely Naby Keita and Diogo Jota. The Portuguese forward could be in line for a significant pay-rise after a brilliant couple of years, while Keita is entering the last 12 months of his deal.

Arguably, none of that trio are in Jurgen Klopp’s current best eleven. But The Reds didn’t almost win a quadruple last season with just eleven players.

If they’re to attempt something similar this year, they need strength in depth. As far as squad players go, there won’t be many teams with better options than the likes of Gomez, Keita and Jota.

Congrats on the new deal, Joe. Let’s hope for an even more productive season this time around.
