As seen on the official Liverpool FC Twitter account, Elliott collected an inch-perfect pass from Milner before executing a delicate lob over the ‘keeper.
And Milner couldn’t hide his enthusiasm after claiming the assist. “Yes please!” exclaimed the Yorkshireman as the ball dropped into the net.
As good as the ball was from Milner, it was all about the finish. A perfect example the confidence, swagger and ability that make Elliott such an exciting prospect.
Elliott catching the eye at the AXA
These are the kind of moments that Elliott needs to keep on producing ahead of the new season.
Granted, finishing probably won’t be right at the top of the attributes the manager is hoping to see from him. If last season is anything to go by, the manager has long-term plans for him in the middle of midfield.
But still, moments of individual brilliance like this will catch Klopp’s eye. It will keep him in the manager’s thoughts when others perhaps blend in.
With plenty of young players joining the first-team for pre-season, it’s up to Elliott to show that he’s a cut above.
Last season, as his game time dwindled, the 19-year-old suggested that he had been below-par in training. He recognised the need to step it up and it looks like he is doing.
Should Elliott avoid any injuries like the one which saw him miss around four months of last season, he should be in-line for a big role.
As for Milner, he’s now into his 21st pre-season and still making it look easy. He has his detractors, but just look at the fade on that pass. Beautiful.
