Jurgen Klopp walked into pre-season training at Liverpool today in discussion with Harvey Elliott.

As seen on the Liverpool FC Twitter page, Klopp was back at the AXA Training Centre today. The manager led his players out onto the pitches for a session with the ball.

Right at the front of the pack was Elliott, who shared a smile with Jurgen as they headed out the tunnel.

Although still only nineteen, Elliott was one of the more senior players involved on Tuesday. Klopp invited as many as 12 youngsters from the academy to supplement the more experienced faces.

Time to deliver for Harvey

Klopp clearly has a soft spot for Elliott. It was this time last year that the teenager was impressing the boss whilst away in Austria.

Liverpool’s new number 19 will be hoping for a similar outcome this time around, too. Elliott is looking to bounce back from a slightly underwhelming end to the campaign and put himself firmly in Klopp’s thoughts.

With many of the first-team players still away, the next few days will be key in doing that.

Liverpool are seemingly adamant that they won’t be adding to their midfield ranks this summer. Sufficiently happy with both Elliott and Curtis Jones, it’s a big show of faith in the two youngsters.

Both are obviously talented enough to repay that faith. But whether they can perform to a consistently high standard is a question that still lingers.

Klopp won’t find the answer to that out over the coming days, but he’ll get a good idea of where Elliott in particular is at ahead of a big season for him.
