Darren Bent has claimed that Mohamed Salah will score ‘more than 20’ goals for Liverpool next season.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, the former England striker was asked whether he feels the Liverpool forward is now past his prime, having signed a new deal.
“No way!” replied Bent. “I think he’s in his prime right now. Next season he’ll go and score over 20 goals again.
“How many times has he won the Golden Boot? Three times? He’s broken the record for goals in a Premier League season, the records keep going and going and going. Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool fanbase, they must be absolutely delighted with this.”
Having hit over 20 goals in four out of five Premier League seasons, it’s a safe assumption that Salah can do the same yet again.
Mo eyes more records for Liverpool
After yesterday’s surprise announcement, Liverpool can now look forward to at least three more years of Salah brilliance.
The new deal could also mean he moves significantly higher in Liverpool’s all-time scoring charts.
Salah is currently ninth in that particular list, with 156 goals in 264 games. In his five years at Liverpool so far, the 30-year-old has scored an average of 31 goals per season.
If he can replicate that for the remaining years on his deal, he will hit just shy of 250 goals for The Reds. That would move him up to third on the all-time list, behind only Roger Hunt and the great Ian Rush.
Of course, Salah is as ambitious as they come though, and he will have designs on going even higher. It seems pretty much impossible for him to scale Rush’s 346 strikes, but he’ll no doubt have his eye on beating Hunt’s 285.
Whatever he does over the next three or more years, Mo is guaranteed to go down as one of Liverpool’s best ever players. What his new deal does, is give him the chance to really reach the upper echelons of that illustrious group of players.
If he can do that, then Liverpool will surely have won more trophies along the way, too. Go get em, Mo!
