New Liverpool star makes Team of the Year alongside two players the Reds reportedly want to sign next

New Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has made the Liga Portugal Team of the Year. He’s there alongside two supposed transfer targets.

It’s not exactly a shock but Darwin Nunez is in the Liga Portugal Team of the Year. The ‘Golden XI’ was dominated by champions Porto, understandably, and there are a few names in there relevant to Liverpool.

One player who didn’t make it, however, was Luis Diaz. The Colombian was an absolute lock over the first half of the campaign, dominating for Porto and earning his big-money move to Liverpool. It seems they’ve counted the fact he literally didn’t play in the second half of the season against his inclusion, though.

Which is fair enough.

Nunez’s 26 goals – the most in the league – essentially guaranteed him a place. And two other players make it who have been linked with Liverpool lately.

Liverpool look at Liga Portugal

The first is Vitinha. Record said in April that the Reds wanted him this summer after a wonderful season with Porto. This was essentially the midfielder’s breakout campaign after he’d struggled on loan with Wolves.

There’s no doubting his ability now, though. Vitinha is a fantastic player and one that Liverpool could see as a long-term holding-midfield option.

His teammate, Otavio, is there, too. The Mirror suggested at the weekend that Liverpool want the playmaker after interest that goes back a year. Correio da Manha reported in June 2021 that the Reds like Otavio.

And for what it’s worth, we think he’d be a good signing. Jornal de Noticias have now jumped on board, too, saying that Liverpool could move this summer. While reports in England suggest otherwise – quite strongly, too – it’s the Portuguese outlets that have been ahead of the curve on both Diaz and Nunez.

Maybe Liverpool plan on more business from Portugal, then? The talent is certainly there.
