Real Madrid will let Marco Asensio simply decide his own future, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the Spaniard.
This comes from Marca. They claim that Real Madrid will essentially let Marco Asensio decide his own future this summer.
Asensio is out of contract in a year’s time and it’s unclear what he wants right now. Real are willing to offer him a new contract but it would only be if he accepts a squad role. If the Spaniard wants first-team football, they won’t bother with an offer – and haven’t made any moves to renew his deal yet.
Thus Asensio is free to ask for a transfer as Real won’t want to lose him for free in 2023. Los Blancos are actually waiting to see what the player decides in order to choose the rest of their targets in the summer transfer window.
Marco Asensio can decide his own future
Liverpool supposedly want Asensio. AS claimed earlier this month that the Reds had been in contact to let him know they’d like him. However, that’s very different from saying a bid is imminent.
We imagine Liverpool actually plan to sign Asensio on a free transfer if it comes to that next year. We can only imagine a transfer happening this summer if Real seriously drop their asking price, said to be £34m.

That’s roughly what Sadio Mané just left for and with all due credit to Asensio, he’s not on Mané’s level. It just doesn’t feel like good business.
Though, we do believe Liverpool can justify a move for the playmaker at the right price. There is a role for Asensio in the squad but again, Real would have to let him go relatively cheap. Perhaps that could happen if he outright requests a transfer.
As things stand, we won’t expect anything but this is one to watch as it develops.
