FC Porto expect Liverpool to return to them this week with an offer for Otavio, according to reports. The playmaker has a release clause.

This comes from the Mirror. They believe that FC Porto expect an offer from Liverpool this week for Otavio.

It’s after the Portuguese side rejected a £26m bid from Leeds United for the player. Liverpool’s interest is long-standing, however, and there are suggestions that they’ll move imminently.

It’s also worth noting that Otavio has a release clause of around £51m. Whether Porto will demand that amount or not isn’t clear.

Porto expect Liverpool offer for Otavio

There have been links between Liverpool and Otavio going back for a while now. The earliest we covered came exactly a year ago as CMJornal claimed that they were considering an offer.

Otavio’s release clause was far less back then and in the end, Liverpool never moved. But reports from Portugal continued for a while and the most recent came in May. A Bola claimed that the Reds still had the playmaker on their shortlist going into this summer.

That certainly aligns with this new report and we certainly wouldn’t rule out an offer. Portuguese outlets were ahead of the rest when it came to Liverpool wanting both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, after all.

That tells us that not only are the club watching the Primeira Liga closely but they already have a relationship with Porto. That opens the door for Otavio, certainly.

And for what it’s worth, we think he’s a very good player and would be a great fit for Liverpool. We believe the club will move towards using more attacking midfielders, too, which would lend itself to this transfer.

This might legitimately be one to watch, then. We can’t imagine that £51m release clause is ever met – that just feels like too much money right now – but Liverpool could find value here. They’ve certainly done so before.
