Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have sold Takumi Minamino to Monaco. It’s the expected transfer, of course, and appears to have gone through without a hitch.
“Takumi Minamino deal, completed,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “He’s joining AS Monaco, permanent move from Liverpool now confirmed by Philippe Clement: “We’re really happy, he was our priority”.
“Liverpool will receive €15m plus €3m in add-ons.”
Those figures come to around £13m upfront which could stretch to £15.5m. That’s actually below the reported asking price of £17m, so Liverpool have lowered their demands to get this one done.
Takumi Minamino sold to AS Monaco
This felt inevitable after Minamino’s solid season last time out. The forward was absolutely vital in Liverpool’s cup competitions, scoring important goals in each as the Reds won both the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
For that, Minamino comfortably justified his time with Liverpool. But it also showed just how good he is.
Clubs would always try to sign the player after such a season, knowing full well that the Reds had no real long-term plans with him. As good as Minamino certainly is, Liverpool simply boast too many elite forwards to truly give him a chance.

And so none of this is a shock. Minamino deserves regular first-team football and can leave Liverpool with his head held high. No, it didn’t quite go the way he’d have wanted but few players have had such an impact when it comes to delivering trophies.
Liverpool can look back on his overall spell as a resounding success, too. Minamino scored those goals that completely pay for his initial £7.25m fee but the club could end up doubling that with his sale. It’s fantastic business that deserves all-arond praise.
