Divock Origi’s second vs Barcelona has been voted as the greatest ever Liverpool goal. The iconic strike saw off some classics.
Liverpool announced the final results of their ongoing Greatest Goals series on Friday. It’s 130 goals for 130 years of LFC and after naming the first 120, the top 10 went to a fan vote.
And those fans have named Divock Origi’s second goal vs Barcelona as the greatest ever Liverpool goal. Not that anyone really needs a refresher but it’s, of course, the Belgian firing home from close range after a quickly-taken-corner by Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The context really holds the magic here, though. This was the fourth goal in a 4-0 win as Liverpool overcame a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Barcelona in their 2019 Champions League semi-final.
The goal beat several iconic goals, too. Steven Gerrard managed to finish with second and third place, in fact. His stoppage-time strike in 2006 FA Cup final and Istanbul header rounded out the top three respectively.
Other goals in the top 10 include Ian St John’s 1965 FA Cup final header – the first time Liverpool won the trophy. European Cup winners from Kenny Dalglish and Alan Kennedy made the cut, too. As did Ian Rush finishing a wonderful move int he 1986 FA Cup final against Everton.

Some serious recency bias here, if we’re being honest – the top 10 is pretty much in chronological order. And while Origi’s goal was massive, it obviously wasn’t quite as massive as literal European Cup-winning goals.

But there’s still a wonderful case for it. It’s a unique goal that delivered an all-time moment for Liverpool. The strike is synonymous with this entire era under Jurgen Klopp and put the Reds on their path back to the top of European football.
So in a lot of ways, it’s a worthy winner – but really, they all were.
