Liverpool plan to sell Ben Davies for eight times what they paid for him, according to reports. Two teams are interested.
This comes from the Liverpool Echo. They claim that Liverpool plan to sell Ben Davies this summer and want around £4m in any deal.
That would be eight times the amount they paid Preston North End back in 2021. In fact, Davies’ loan to Sheffield United last season already covered the initial £500k with his loan fee – any sale would be pure profit.
Liverpool do admit that a full £4m sale would be difficult, however, given Davies’ lack of games for them. ‘Lack of games’ is actually putting it mildly – he’s literally never played a minute. The Reds imagine any £4m deal would include add-ons, then, rather than just a guaranteed figure.
And two clubs are already looking at the player. Middlesbrough and Celtic want Davies, with Liverpool hoping one of the pair will meet their demands this summer.
Liverpool plan to sell Ben Davies
This really has always been such a strange one. Davies arrived at Liverpool during an injury crisis and looked set to play a significant role over the first half of 2021.
“I think it’s probably clear that in a normal transfer window, without any issues, we would not look at Preston if there’s a player for us or something like that,” said Klopp at the time, per the Echo’s report. “It’s not really likely.
“But since we saw him and since our situation got clearer and clearer – the problems we had – when we saw him we got really excited about it and thought, ‘Wow.’”

Davies arrived along with Ozan Kabak that January, of course. Yet by the end of the season, Liverpool were starting Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips at centre-back – two inexperienced players who had been at the club all along.
It truly is the best for everyone, then, if Davies moves on. His career has completely stalled at Liverpool and either Celtic or Middlesbrough would be a wonderful transfer for him.
Bizarrely, any sale would mean Liverpool can call this transfer a success, too. Profit’s profit, after all.
