Liverpool could have their chance to sign Nico Barella this summer. Inter’s transfer plans should see to that.
Calciomercatoweb claims that Liverpool want Nico Barella and could look to sign him this summer. Now, admittedly, that’s not a source we’re particularly familiar with and we wouldn’t put too much stock into this.
But there have certainly been links before. In fact, every major outlet in Italy claimed that Liverpool tried to sign Barella last summer. Gazzetta Dello Sport were one of those, saying that there were talks between the Reds and Inter.
Only, it always felt unlikely. For one, Inter sold both Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku last summer and didn’t really need the money. The chances of them selling their three best players in one window always felt slim.
That didn’t change the fact that we were firmly behind the idea, though. Barella is a wonderful player and one Liverpool have room for. He could be the future in their midfield, the one to take over as a star post-Thiago and Jordan Henderson.
And we think there might be a chance this summer.
Liverpool might have their chance to sign Nico Barella
Inter perhaps do need money this summer. Reports link them with two deals, neither of which will come particularly cheap all-in.
Per the Athletic, Inter want both Paulo Dybala and to re-sign Lukaku. Neither would cost enormous transfer fees – Dybala is a free-agent and Lukaku a loan – but there’s a lot to pay in wages here. It’ll also necessitate a slight restructure in their team to fit both players alongside Lautaro Martinez.
Thus this could be the summer to tempt them into selling Barella. Is it realistic? Probably not but we know they lack enormous funds. Selling Barella feels a little inevitable one day and we feel Inter would be most open to it right as they’re planning two major signings.
Liverpool might have a chance to sign the ‘Sardinian Steven Gerrard’ – if they’re willing to really test Inter’s resolve.
