Liverpool could bring in millions with summer thanks to three sell-on clauses. The Reds struck some clever deals.
It seems that Liverpool could boost their transfer funds this summer thanks to interest in three players who don’t even play for the club. That’s according to various reports right now, anyway.
For instance, the Athletic reported on Saturday that Nottingham Forest want Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi. Liverpool sold the Nigerian to Union last summer and included a 10% sell-on clause in the deal.
Awoniyi boasts a release clause of £17.2m and after his 15 Bundesliga goals, Union may well hold to that. The Reds would pick up £1.7m as a result.
Now, that’s certainly not the most money in the world of football but combine it with some others and Liverpool are doing some good business. Marko Grujic is another, for example, that could bring in a bit of cash.
Record claim that Fulham recently bid £16m for Grujic, which FC Porto rejected. They want a bit more than that, it seems, and Liverpool will enjoy that. They’ll receive 10% of any fee there, per the BBC, which would mean something close to £2m.
Lastly, there’s interest in Wolves defender Ki-Jana Hoever. Ajax, per the Athletic, and PSV Eindhoven, per Voetbal Inernational, believe he could move this summer.

And any sale would see 15% head to Liverpool, say the Athletic.
Liverpool stand to benefit from sell-on clauses
No, this isn’t exactly going to cover the Darwin Nunez deal but combined, these clauses could cover the initial cost of Calvin Ramsay. Sky Sports report that there’s a deal in place for £4m upfront that could rise to £6.5m with add-ons.
Liverpool may not need to take anything out of their own budget for that one, then. Awoniyi, Grujic and Hoever could all bring in the funds if they move this summer – and those at Anfield will hope they will.
