Stats show that Sadio Mané won an alarming number of points for Liverpool with his goals. In fact, only one Premier League star won more.
Liverpool will sell Sadio Mané to Bayern Munich this summer. It brings an end to a six-year spell at Anfield after he joined from Southampton in 2016.
The Reds watched Mané develop rapidly into one of the world’s best forwards, scoring important goals as they delivered the biggest trophies. Now, with one year remaining on his contract, the Senegal star departs for Germany.
Sky Sports have put up a piece to demonstrate what that truly means for Liverpool. In that piece, one statistic really stands out that shows off how Mané helps the team compete at the top level.
They show that Liverpool’s no.10 has scored goals that directly contributed to 63 points over six seasons. In other words, Mané is worth around 10 points to in the Premier League every season.
Only one player tops that over the period – Harry Kane for Tottenham Hotspur with 75. Though, it’s worth noting that Mohamed Salah is only one point behind Mané despite arriving a year later.
Replacing the goals of Sadio Mané
It’s fairly obvious who Liverpool believe can replace that kind of impact from Mané. They’ve just spent a fortune on Darwin Nunez and that’s primarily because he scores a lot.
Thus the Reds won’t immediately see a reason to panic as Mané leaves the club. But it does show the amount of pressure that now falls on Nunez, as well as Luis Diaz.
Because it took Salah, Mané and Diogo Jota scoring an incredible number of important goals each just to keep up the pace with Manchester City last season. Any decline whatsoever from the forwards at the club would be the difference between a title race and finishing a distant second.
It is absolutely vital that Nunez steps up immediately if Liverpool are to keep competing.
