Report: Liverpool could now sign 'unbelievable' PL star for just £43m, as club lower asking price

Leeds United have lowered their asking price for reported Liverpool transfer target Raphinha.

That’s according to Spanish publication Sport, who claim that Liverpool could now sign the winger for around £43m.

However, it’s claimed that Raphinha’s preference remains to be Barcelona. To that end, Leeds are reportedly being ‘squeezed’ by the player to lower the asking price even further still.

For his part, the Brazilian is reportedly prepared to ‘ask publicly’ to leave Leeds, if it will get him his desired move.

Sport claim that both Liverpool and Arsenal have ‘asked’ about his signing. But given Raphinha’s wish to play for Barca, they haven’t taken enquiries any further.

Should they be unable to match Leeds’ asking price, Barcelona reportedly have Angel Di Maria on standby as an ‘affordable alternative.’

Business to sort out next year

After reports yesterday that Liverpool won’t make any further signings this window, hope of bringing a player like Raphinha in has dwindled.

However, Liverpool currently have a sticky situation with Mohamed Salah. There looks to be no movement in terms of the Egyptian legend signing a new contract as things stand.

Should he fail to sign a new deal, as looks likely, Mo will leave the club next summer. Liverpool are reportedly planning to bring in a midfielder next summer, which would likely cost them an arm and a leg.

To try to replace Salah in the same window, as well as potentially Roberto Firmino? That’s leaving a lot on the shoulders of summer 2023.

A tempting asking price

Instead, if Liverpool could pick up a quality player like Raphinha for an affordable price, it would be a super move.

The 25-year-old could bed in for a year learning from Salah before taking over the job full-time. In the meantime he could also fill in as a progressive right-sided midfielder.

Of course, his preference for Barcelona makes things tricky. But Liverpool could put pressure on Leeds with a good offer, and see where they end up.

£43m for a Brazilian international with room to improve further would be excellent business.
