Report explains what Sadio Mané will get with his new Bayern Munich contract; Liverpool wouldn't match it

Sadio Mané will get a pay rise in his Bayern Munich contract, according to reports. Liverpool seemingly wouldn’t match the offer.

Liverpool have reportedly accepted a bid from Bayern Munich for Sadio Mané. Per Paul Joyce, it’ll be around £27m guaranteed with add-ons that stretch to £35m.

It’s a figure that actually falls short of the Reds’ alleged asking price. Per the Athletic, they wanted £42m for the no.10 but Bayern wouldn’t pay that. Now there’s a compromise of around £7m.

We didn’t think Liverpool would accept that but perhaps they were simply in a corner here. Mané’s contract expires next year, after all, and the Mirror claim that he wanted to be the club’s highest-paid player. That wasn’t on the table, it seems, and he verbally agreed a contract with Bayern a few weeks ago.

That Mirror piece believes Mané will earn around £240k per week in Bavaria, with the Athletic saying it’ll be a three-year contract. And that gives us an idea of what Liverpool considered to be too much.

Sadio Mané secures big Bayern Munich contract

Mané is now 30, meaning Bayern will pay him those massive wages as he almost certainly starts to decline as a player. There’s a good chance that he’s still a world-class player by 32 or 33 but for someone so reliant on his athleticism, Liverpool inevitably saw reason for concern.

Especially if they have any plans to give Mohamed Salah an even bigger contract. That would be two wingers moving through their 30s on enormous wages – it’s a recipe for disaster. Both players could decline at once, leaving Liverpool hamstrung.

That was clearly too big of a risk for the Reds to take and even though we hate to lose Mané, it’s understandable. The likes of Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are there to take over the reins, after all. It was never a risk they needed to take.
