Arsenal will sign Fabio Vieira from FC Porto, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly wanted the player.
Various reports claim that Arsenal are on the brink of signing Fabio Vieira from FC Porto. A Bola in Portugal makes one claim, as does the Athletic.
Arsenal will pay around £34m for Vieira, with £4m of that being add-ons. They get a very talented young playmaker for the money – he registered 14 assists in the Primeira Liga last season.
Vieira, who turned 22 to end last month, enjoyed his best season to date. He’d started it by winning Best Player at the U21 Euros and took that form to senior level with Porto. Now he gets the big move that many tipped for him back in 2021.

Vieira was a player heavily linked with Liverpool this time last year. CMJornal were one of those making the claim – but every outlet in Portugal believed that the Reds would bid.
And we were just about on board with it, too. Vieira clearly had talent – as shown by his award – but seriously lacked first-team football for a 21-year-old. He’d barely received minutes at the top level as he struggled to get into the Porto team.
Naturally, Liverpool saw a potential bargain but couldn’t justify the move in the end. We imagine that lack of first-team football played a significant role in that.
Vieira’s form last season essentially confirmed Liverpool’s interest, too. We’d have been absolutely shocked if they weren’t tracking him, given they’ve clearly had eyes on the Primeira Liga lately. Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez prove that.
We actually wrote just yesterday that Vieira could still be a target for Liverpool but that’s now out of the window. Arsenal are the team to take a serious chance on him and we’ll be watching closely at one who got away.
