Three more players Liverpool coach poach from the Portuguese Primeira Liga after Diaz & Nunez

Liverpool have made two major signings in 2022 and both came from the Primeira Liga in Portugal. Who could be next, then?

Darwin Nunez is officially a Liverpool player – and potentially, a record-breaking one. The Reds are paying a sizeable amount to get him from Benfica.

And he’s not even the only player they’ve signed from Portugal this year. Things kicked off with Luis Diaz, of course, who was an absolute revelation over the second half of the season. Fingers crossed Nunez can have a similar impact.

The Primeira Liga is being kind to Liverpool, then – something that looked the case last year. The Reds appear to believe that top players can come from that league and immediately deliver at the highest level. So who could be next?

Let’s have a look at three more players plying their trade in Portugal who could interest Liverpool.

Liverpool raiding Portugal

Vitinha

Vitinha spent a very unsuccessful year with Wolves in the Premier League but his career rebounded at Porto last season. The midfielder was fantastic and, per Record, caught the eye of Liverpool.

Still only 22, someone will surely snap Vitinha up before long as he’s the kind of midfielder who does a bit of everything. He wins tackles and interceptions every game, chips in with some assists and goals – just the lot, really.

Fabio Vieira

There’s been a lot of talk over the last year that Liverpool like Vieira. O Jogo was saying it just last month, too, and that he’d now cost around £40m.

The Independent says Liverpool have scouted Vieira long-term, with CMJornal reporting last year that there was interest. We were completely on board with it at the time, too. The playmaker was Best Player at the U21 Euros last year, after all.

And after 14 assists this season, Liverpool are only going to hang onto that interest. Vieira is one to watch.

Pedro Goncalves

We were all-in on Pote back in 2021 after his incredible season that delivered Sporting the title in 2021. The midfielder/forward looked like a wonderful fit – it just turned out we were focusing on the wrong exciting forward out of Portugal.

Liverpool were linked, of course, with Record one of those making that claim. We don’t think they should forget about him, either. While Pote didn’t repeat his 23-goal season this time around, he still registered eight goals and nine assists across 25 starts.
