‘I was really surprised’: Darwin Nunez says one thing instantly motivated him when he arrived at Liverpool

Darwin Nunez says he was immediately motivated as he joins Liverpool. The Uruguayan is officially a Red on a long-term contract.

Darwin Nunez is a Liverpool player. The Reds officially announced their new no.27 on Tuesday and the suggestions are that he’s potentially a club-record signing.

The Athletic details things. Nunez would cost £85m with add-ons but this is an initial £64m. So not quite the record yet but if all goes well, this will be the biggest investment in Liverpool’s history.

We think he justifies that fee and Nunez opens up a lot of options for Liverpool going forward. Everyone can get excited here, then – the Reds have a top player and one who should only get better and better.

But what does Nunez himself think about joining Liverpool? The striker talked to Liverpoolfc.com about it and says he’s already motivated to win trophies.

One trip to the training ground did that.

“When I arrived at the training ground, I was really surprised to see the set-up and the structure and all the trophies here,” said Nunez.

“You can then imagine yourself winning more trophies and then later on when you come here again and see the trophies on display, you can say, ‘Look, I was a part of that, I was there at that time, winning trophies.’

“That’s one of the reasons why I came here to Liverpool – to win trophies and titles. I want to win a lot of trophies at Liverpool.”

It’s a massive boost for a club like Liverpool. They can outright show new players the standards at the club and that’s going to sway most. Not only that but most of Nunez’s new teammates won those trophies. He now slots into a side that knows success and can help him achieve his ultimate goals in football.
