Uruguay have given the clearest hint yet that Darwin Nunez will imminently sign for Liverpool. The forward should move shortly.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Saturday that Uruguay have left Darwin Nunez out of the team to face Panama. They’ve done so as the player will travel to Merseyside this weekend to complete a move to Liverpool.
“Uruguay confirm that Darwin Núñez has been left out of the team for tonight’s game,” Romano wrote on Twitter. “No risk as he’s set to complete his move to Liverpool in the next days.
“Darwin and his agents are planning for travel to England after verbal agreement between Liverpool and Benfica.”
Liverpool will pay a club-record fee of around £85m to sign Nunez from Benfica. All that really needs to be sorted is the payment structure.
Uruguay leave out Darwin Nunez
That really is as clear a sign as you can get that something is happening. Uruguay aren’t going to risk Nunez picking up any sort of problem in a friendly that could jeopardise such a transfer. He’s got a medical to pass, after all.
That’s certainly the way Liverpool will want it. This is set to be the biggest transfer in their history and things must go smoothly.
Liverpool quite clearly see things that way and the speed with which they’ve moved is notable. They haven’t waited for any sales in order to help with the cost – something they could easily have done with Sadio Mané likely leaving.
Instead, it’s been full steam ahead for Nunez and this one should wrap itself up shortly.
