Just how good is Darwin Nunez? One former coach explained what Liverpool might be getting this summer as they push for a transfer.
It seems that Liverpool will sign Darwin Nunez this summer. The Athletic is one of several sources saying there’s strong interest, while the likes of Fabrizio Romano and CMJornal claim that Benfica have an offer in front of them.
That offer could be as high as £85m – a potential club record for Liverpool. Clearly, the club see great things in Nunez.
So why is that? Well, the Portuguese outlet Record talked with a former coach of the Uruguayan’s from Almeria. José Gomes explained just how good Darwin Nunez actually is – and why he’s a wonderful fit for Liverpool.
“He’s physically very powerful and with tremendous potential,” said Gomes. “He’s a player who’s 1.90 metres and with tremendous speed.
“The speed he has allows his team to reach the opposing goal very easily.”
As for how Jurgen Klopp could use him, Gomes had this to say:

“[Nunez is a good fit] not only for the coach himself, who is a motivator and enthusiastic but also for the style of play he pushes,” he said.
“Klopp likes to look for spaces behind opposing defensive lines, which means that we can say that Darwin will feel like a fish in water, because speed and quick attack are characteristics that he favours.”

Everything you see, hear and read about Nunez is excellent. Not that it should surprise anyone – Liverpool are open to spending £85m on him for a very good reason.
What’s arguably the most exciting thing, however, is that all of this is true and Nunez is still only 22. He turns 23 later this month but the forward is still so, so young. He’s brilliant already and should only get better.
We’re crossing our fingers that this one goes through, then. Liverpool have earmarked a current and future star here – and they appear willing to pay big money to get him.
