Report: Liverpool have changed their offer for 'tremendous' player, looks set to get the deal done

Liverpool changed the structure of their original Darwin Nunez offer, according to reports. It was enough for Benfica to say yes.

This comes from O Jogo. The Portuguese outlet claims that Liverpool simply changed the structure of their opening Darwin Nunez offer and Benfica now like it.

It revolves around the fact that the selling club want €100m for Nunez, or around £85m. And Liverpool did offer that – €70m upfront and another €30m in add ons.

That didn’t quite get things over the line, however, but a subtle change appears to have done the trick. Liverpool now have €80m on the table with €20m in add ons. The extra €10m upfront has things ‘moving at a good pace’.

The Athletic’s claims that Liverpool and Nunez have agreed on personal terms allude to that. Benfica have clearly given the go-ahead for talks there and that must mean that an agreement on the fee is close.

It really does seem that Liverpool will get their man.

Liverpool improve offer for Darwin Nunez

It’s a lot of money. Liverpool’s offer would actually break their transfer record, should the add ons trigger, eclipsing what they paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018.

But we think there’s enough good here to justify the move. Nunez has so much going for him, especially as he’s still only 22. Liverpool can secure the long-term future of their forward line, just as the futures of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino are up in the air.

The Uruguayan’s former coach, José Gomes told Record on Wednesday that Nunez had ‘tremendous potential’ and would fit right in at Liverpool. That’s just one of several glowing reviews for the player, who kind of feels like a no-miss signing right now.

Nunez ticks every box you’d want, has the record to back it up and offers that long-term future. We’re getting excited and hopefully, Liverpool can get this one over the line with their updated offer.
