Liverpool reportedly have five players in mind to sell as they look to fund a Darwin Nunez transfer. The Reds have big plans.
This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Liverpool do want to sign Darwin Nunez in the transfer window for a club-record fee.
That fee could reach all the way to £85m – should add ons trigger. Such an amount isn’t easy for Liverpool to reach but they hope to sell a few players in order to ease the burden.
Sadio Mané is one of those after he essentially asked to leave the club anyway. Bayern Munich remain favourites to sign him. Takumi Minamino is another commanding interest from elsewhere and his lack of minutes last season make him a relatively easy sale.
Nat Phillips and Neco Williams – two players who spent the last six months off on loan – are also available to buy. The final one is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who found himself completely on the fringes of the first-team squad in 2022.
Sell all four and Liverpool would make a sizeable dent in what looks like a record bid for Nunez.
Liverpool plan Darwin Nunez transfer
It’s the smart thing to do, of course. It’s also the predictable thing to do for from Liverpool – they’re not a club that throws this kind of money around with ease.

Virgil van Dijk – the current record transfer – arrived as Philippe Coutinho left for a ridiculous fee of his own.
It still doesn’t change the fact that Liverpool would be taking a massive risk here. Nunez is still relatively unproven, given his best football has come in Portugal. It’s not renowned as one of the world’s top five leagues.
The impact Luis Diaz had in a short space of time does change the perspective there, though. He’s proven that players can make the jump and outperform the world’s best. Liverpool clearly believe that Nunez could do the same.
