Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have made an ‘official proposal’ for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez. The Reds are now waiting for a response.
Fabrizio Romano outlined Liverpool’s ‘official’ offer for Darwin Nunez on Wednesday. The Reds appear to be moving quickly for the Uruguayan and there are record-breaking numbers involved.
“Official proposal from Liverpool for Darwin Núñez will be €80m plus add ons for €100m package,” he wrote on Twitter. “Benfica will make a decision soon, while Man United are also in contact with his agent.
“Liverpool are prepared to offer Núñez a five year deal, waiting for Benfica decision.”
That initial fee would be around £72m, making it the second-highest bid Liverpool have ever made. The add ons would take things all the way to £85m, however – the Reds’ record transfer.
Romano said earlier in the day that Liverpool were ‘preparing’ a verbal offer and this seems to be just that. They’re now waiting on confirmation from Benfica before moving forward with things. We imagine the moment they get the go-ahead, they’ll make a formal offer to Nunez himself.
Liverpool make their Darwin Nunez offer
As is typical with Liverpool, things are moving very quickly. They’ve clearly earmarked their priority target here and want to get things done ASAP.
Manchester United’s interest is evidently a worry – as it should be. United’s track record of paying big money for players makes them a threat and finalising things with Benfica quickly makes complete sense.
Especially as United have a new manager this summer. It might take them a few weeks before they’re able to commit to such a signing – Liverpool don’t have that problem. They quite plainly want Nunez and will make it happen.
As for the offer, this is exactly in line with CMJornal’s claims that Benfica want £80m -£85m for their star asset. We imagine they’ll accept and Liverpool will get their chance to complete a record-breaking deal.
Is Nunez worth that? No one can say for sure. The signs point to ‘yes’, though.
