Sadio Mané has agreed terms with Bayern Munich, according to reports. They’re going to pay him a massive wage that Liverpool wouldn’t match.
This comes from Sport Bild. They claim that Sadio Mané agrees terms with Bayern Munich and the two parties will move forward with a transfer. The Bavarians now need to negotiate a fee with Liverpool.
That’s not thought to be too difficult, though they’re a little apart right now. Bayern want to pay around €30m, while Liverpool want closer to €50m. Either way, it’s going to be a bargain.
What’s less of a bargain is Mané’s salary. The article claims that Bayern will pay him €20m per year annually, which works out to £328k per week. It’ll be a steep pay rise and put him on more money than anyone at Liverpool – by some distance.
Sadio Mané agrees terms with Bayern Munich
We wrote as soon as the rumours started that selling Mané would be a disaster. We stand by that – but it feels that Liverpool have little choice. The player wants to leave and the club clearly don’t believe they should keep him for another year.
Perhaps that’s because Mohamed Salah could also leave for free in 2023. Losing both without a transfer fee would be chaos and makes replacing either – let alone both – immeasurably difficult. At least this way, Liverpool can quickly move forward on a replacement for this season.
As for Mané’s wage, it was always unrealistic that Liverpool would pay that. He’s now 30 and a long-term contract on £300k+ per week is a huge risk for anyone – especially when Salah wants the same. There’s essentially no chance that Liverpool would give that money to two players over 30. We’re not sure they’ll do it for one.
And so attention now turns to Liverpool’s post-Mané squad. Finding a replacement will be a tough task but it’s one the Reds must get right.
