Liverpool are tracking Rennes forward Martin Terrier, according to reports. The Frenchman enjoyed a wonderful season in Ligue 1.
This comes from the Mirror. They claim that Liverpool are tracking Martin Terrier with a view to signing him this summer. The 25-year-old would be something of a Sadio Mané replacement, who will likely leave the club.
Terrier burst into life this season with by far the best goalscoring campaign of his career. He jumped from nine goals last season to 21 this time around, with three assists for good measure.
Particularly impressive, though, was his end to the season. Terrier scored seven and assisted three in his final 10 Ligue 1 games. That included a run of scoring in six consecutive games as Rennes clinched fourth-place on goal difference.
Liverpool are tracking Martin Terrier
This would be an interesting signing and admittedly, the kind of deal Liverpool like to make. The Reds could almost certainly secure Terrier for a decent price as he’s not a big name across Europe.
And his season certainly was encouraging. 21 goals – 19 from open play – is a fantastic record and the only worry there is that he’s only done it once. His previous campaign saw him score only nine, though he did add seven assists. It’s a case of two excellent back-to-back seasons – just with a different kind of output.
Replacing Mané will obviously be a nightmare but Liverpool already have enough at the club to keep things solid without him. Thus Terrier might be the kind of chance the Reds need to make.
They usually get things right, after all, and Terrier is versatile enough to play both centrally and out wide – much like Mané. We’re sure he could play a very solid role next season no matter what and if his goalscoring carried over, Liverpool could have a special player.
One to watch, certainly.
