Report: Liverpool have genuine interest in Darwin Nunez and could move after the Champions League final

Darwin Nunez could choose Liverpool this summer, according to reports. The Reds have an advantage over Manchester United.

This comes from They claim that Liverpool have ‘genuine interest’ in signing Darwin Nunez this summer as he prepares to leave Benfica.

But the Reds are far from the only ones. The report mentions Manchester United, Newcastle United, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as alternative destinations. In other words, there’s a lot of interest in the Uruguayan. In fact, Tottenham Hotspur could get involved, too.

It’s Liverpool, though, who could hold an advantage over everyone else. Nunez wants to play in the Premier League, apparently, and also wants Champions League football. The Reds are the only team that ticks those two boxes – unless Spurs do decide to bid.

Liverpool, then, might be heading back to Portugal for business in 2022.

Darwin Nunez could choose Liverpool

It’s an interesting one. Liverpool’s interest in Nunez would make complete sense if there weren’t already five elite forwards at the club – would he even play?

Well, possibly, yes. While there are five, three of them face great uncertainty over their futures. No one really knows what the future holds for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané or Roberto Firmino. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Should any of them move on, though, a move for Nunez would be fantastic. The 22-year-old was magnificent this season, scoring 32 goals across the Primeira Liga and Champions League. He’s a player who should only get better and, to top it off, can play multiple forward positions.

Nunez is exactly the kind of forward Liverpool like, then. Jurgen Klopp certainly likes him – and it sounds as though the Reds stand a fantastic chance of getting him if they do end up bidding. One to watch this summer, then, and we could see big changes at Anfield.
