This summer’s transfer window could in fact bring a new goalkeeper for Liverpool.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who claim that The Reds will be looking to sign a new ‘keeper in the off-season.

Liverpool are reportedly hoping to bring in someone who can help ‘push’ current options Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher.

It’s also claimed that Liverpool are on the lookout for a right-back to cover Trent Alexander-Arnold. Calvin Ramsay is the player named as being ‘liked’ by The Reds.

Plenty of options for Liverpool

Although nothing can be ruled out at this very early stage of the transfer window, this seems like a strange one.

Aside from the clear number’s one and two, Liverpool also have two more first-team options below them.

Firstly, Adrian is already an able deputy as third choice. He has his detractors but he is a helpful presence around the club. After signing a two year deal last summer, the 35-year-old still has a year to run on his contract.

Then there’s Marcelo Pitaluga. The Brazilian may only be nineteen, but he has been impressing the coaching staff at Liverpool for some time.

It may well be that following the coming pre-season, Pitaluga jumps ahead of Adrian as third in line.

Spotlight on Kelleher

The most interesting angle to all this is where it would leave Kelleher. The Irishman was the hero in February’s Carabao Cup final win and has put himself in the spotlight at other times too.

But that high three months ago was his last appearance of the season. Unless something unexpected happens to Alisson between now and Saturday, that will remain the case.

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he has no plans to sell Kelleher or allow him to leave on loan. His value will currently still be higher than ever, though.

If Liverpool are really looking at bringing in a new stopper, maybe it will be at Kelleher’s expense after all.
