Report: 25-year-old midfielder slips down Liverpool's list of signings, but Arsenal could now sign him instead

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is no longer a priority for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer market.

That’s according to The Telegraph, who claim that the 25-year-old has been ‘of interest’ to Liverpool in the past. However, that has now changed, with Arsenal looking like a more likely destination.

Tielemans would reportedly prefer a move to a Champions League club, such as Liverpool. But it’s claimed the Belgian is now ‘open’ to playing in the Europa League too.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to make an offer of £25m for the former Liverpool target. Leicester meanwhile are asking for ‘over £30m.’

Liverpool looking at other targets

Tielemans is no doubt a fine player and, to be honest, £30m sounds like a decent price for him.

Leicester actually signed him for a reported £40m back in 2019, so The Foxes could even take a hit on their player. That would surely be a big disappointment for Brendan Rodgers.

UEFA MUST STOP! NEW CHAMPIONS LEAGUE COULD RUIN FOOTBALL

The midfielder has often threatened to become a top player, but has never fully reached his potential. Leicester must have known he would look for a bigger move at some point, and will surely be frustrated that they won’t make a healthy profit on his sale.

From a Liverpool point of view, we could do with a midfielder of Tielemans’ profile. The injuries to Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho in the build-up to the Champions League final have exposed Liverpool fragilities in midfield.

The Reds could do with another top-class options to supplement what they already have. Tielemans certainly has the potential to be that option, but it appears Liverpool will now look elsewhere.

One of those reportedly under consideration is Aurelien Tchouameni. Being twenty-two, he is a few years younger than Tielemans, but could cost double, or more, what the Leicester man would.

Liverpool could reportedly be about to lose that chase anyway. Latest reports indicate that Tchouameni looks likely to join Real Madrid.

That could send The Reds recruitment team back to the drawing board. There’s a few options with similar profiles that they could look to.

With domestic seasons across Europe now finished, expect the rumour mill to go into overdrive once again.
