Liverpool’s 2021/22 summer transfer window was fairly tame compared to most other years, yet as we have seen, that has proven to be a masterstroke from the club.
Just one signing was made by Jurgen Klopp as Ibrahima Konate was signed from RB Leipzig, with the French defender having an excellent debut season for Liverpool and proving to many critics that multiple signings are not needed in the summer transfer window to succeed.
As well as just one signing, Liverpool only offloaded five senior players, many of who had no future at the club or were ready to leave anyway due to expiring contracts. Yet a full season on from these departures, how have these summer sales fared since exiting Anfield in the transfer window last year?
Georginio Wijnaldum

The highest-profile name to depart Liverpool last summer was Georginio Wijnaldum, who left the Reds at the end of his contract to sign for PSG despite strong reports that the midfielder was going to end up at FC Barcelona.
Despite joining a strong squad, the Netherlands international has been a complete flop in the French capital, with reports now suggesting that PSG are keen to offload Wijnaldum and his reported £180,000-a-week contract this summer, with a move back to the Premier League being mooted around.
Marko Grujic

Marko Grujic was Klopp’s first-ever signing at Liverpool, yet despite his potential and impressive performances out on loan, the Serbian midfielder just failed to add that extra something the Reds were needing in the squad.
Now a full-time FC Porto player after spending 18 months on loan at the Portuguese giants, the 26-year-old is finally at a major club where he has an important role week-in week-out, much to the joy of Klopp and Liverpool supporters.
Taiwo Awoniyi

Despite spending six years on Liverpool’s books, Taiwo Awoniyi didn’t play a single minute of football for the Reds as the Nigerian international failed to get a work permit, and upon leaving for Union Berlin last summer on a permanent deal, the striker has exploded into life.
The 24-year-old has been key to the Bundesliga side’s fifth-place finish after guiding Union to a seventh-place finish in their first year back in the German top-flight, and this season saw Awoniyi become the club’s record goalscorer in the division, with a Premier League move now being reported for the Nigerian.
Harry Wilson

After multiple impressive loan spells away from Anfield, Harry Wilson finally made the decision this summer to leave Liverpool for good with the Wales international joining Fulham in a deal worth a reported £15m.
Like many of his previous loans to the Championship, Wilson has been incredible for the Cottagers, with the winger playing a huge role in Marco Silva’s side winning the second-tier title, and the attacker will no doubt want to prove a point next season in the Premier League with Fulham.
Xherdan Shaqiri

Xherdan Shaqiri’s spell at Liverpool was an example of Michael Edwards finding value in the transfer window, yet after being a squad player for multiple years, the Swiss international finally departed Anfield to join Olympique Lyonnais in France.
However, just six months into his move to Ligue 1, Shaqiri was on the move once again after falling out of favour with the coaching staff at Lyon, with the attacker transferring to the Chicago Fire in MLS on a Designated Player deal.
