Jurgen Klopp confirmed Divock Origi’s status ahead of the Champions League final. The Belgian is carrying an injury.
Liverpool’s attention firmly turns towards the UEFA Champions League final now. Saturday’s showpiece against Real Madrid gives the Reds their shot at a seventh European Cup – that would tie AC Milan for the second-most in history.
Real, of course, hold the record with 13. It’ll be a clash of two European giants and a rematch of the 2018 final.
Los Blancos won that final 3-1 on the back of two infamous errors by Loris Karius. It was heartbreaking for Liverpool, though they did manage to bounce back a year later with victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
The hero of that run was Divock Origi, who scored in the Champions League final as well as two goals against Barcelona in the semis. His status for Saturday’s, however, looked up in the air after he didn’t make Liverpool’s squad against Wolves on Sunday.
And Jurgen Klopp moved to confirm the bad news after the game – Origi will not play in Paris.
“Div is definitely out for the final because he [got] injured in the last second of the last session yesterday,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.
“He got a muscle injury, so five days will not be enough for him.”
Divock Origi to miss UEFA Champions League final
Well, this is a massive blow. Origi is Liverpool’s go-to in big-match moments – be it a Champions League final or a Merseyside derby. Not having him on the bench does hurt the Reds, even if he certainly wouldn’t have started the game.

The Reds are out for revenge against Real, that’s for sure. They’ll have to do it without their lucky Belgian, though. Fortunately, they do boast enough forwards to make up for his absence.
But this does feel like a big loss.
