Redknapp believes Thiago is giving Harvey Elliott ‘an education that you cannot buy’

Jamie Redknapp believes Harvey Elliott is getting something special from Thiago at Liverpool right now. The youngster must feel grateful.

Harvey Elliott has had a strange season in his first full senior campaign with Liverpool. He started magnificently, playing a level far beyond his years and data suggests Elliott is something remarkable.

But a bad injury against Leeds United paused his season and we haven’t consistently seen the teenager since. Liverpool’s Quadruple march hasn’t really helped, either, as Jurgen Klopp found himself less inclined to trust young players. It’s been the first-XI pretty much every week.

That doesn’t mean the last six or seven months have been a waste for Elliott, though. As Jamie Redknapp points out, there are players in the squad who provide a magnificent education for the 19-year-old.

“He’ll be looking at it as getting a good pre-season in and come back to fight for one of those positions,” Redknapp told Sky Sports. “Thiago’s form has been incredible, which has probably not helped [Elliott’s] cause because of how well he’s done.

“But every day for that young man, learning, playing and watching Thiago – who’s a similar sort of player in a lot of ways – is just an education that you cannot buy”.

We do feel that Elliott will only improve from things at the club right now. Klopp’s contract extension stands to benefit him, for instance.

Thiago is an interesting one, though. We actually see Curtis Jones as a closer player to Thiago, with Elliott being far more inclined to get into the box than the Spaniard.

That said, simply having someone as good as Thiago in the squad benefits every young player. He’s one of the best midfielders on the planet right now and few players can match his technique and mentality.

Elliott will improve, as Redknapp says, simply by watching how Thiago handles certain situations, how he controls a game and through his decision making. It’s the benefit of having world-class players at the club and Liverpool will see that in Elliott.
