Aston Villa Tweeted an image for Liverpool fans to like ahead of their crunch clash vs Manchester City on Sunday. They face Burnley tomorrow.
Liverpool can win the Premier League on Sunday but they rely on Aston Villa as much as themselves. Manchester City must drop points to leave the door open for the Reds, after all. It’s a difficult one, given Villa don’t have all that much to play for.
Fortunately, there are a few familiar faces at Villa who could relish playing a part in Liverpool’s potential title victory. The most obvious of those is the boss, of course – Steven Gerrard can play his part in Premier League success, even if he doesn’t get a medal for it.
But there are also a couple of ex-Reds in the Villa squad and a post on the club’s Twitter account highlighted that fact. They sent out a picture of Danny Ings training alongside Philippe Coutinho ahead of Villa vs Burnley tomorrow.
Coutinho joined Liverpool back in 2013, of course, and became a star at the club before his high-profile departure in 2018. A departure that actually laid the groundwork for the success over the last few years.
Ings, on the other hand, was a free transfer from Burnley in 2015. He started wonderfully, too, but suffered a horrendous injury in his very first training session with new boss Jurgen Klopp. Further injuries robbed a very promising player of his true opportunity with Liverpool.
Manchester City vs Aston Villa
Both players had very different exits from Liverpool and both, it should be said, could have had things go very differently in their time at Anfield. The Reds are certainly counting on them now, though.
These two might be the most likely players to actually get something from City on Sunday and we hope they don’t play too many minutes against Burnley tomorrow evening. If they can provide some magic, they’ll actually strengthen their Liverpool legend.
