Jamie Carragher is convinced that Divock Origi is leaving Liverpool this summer. He does see one way he’s worth a five-year deal, though.

Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Divock Origi will be around for much longer at Liverpool. The Belgian looks highly likely to leave Anfield this summer with the end of his contract.

“Yeah, I think he’s leaving,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “He’s one of those players who is much better coming off the bench rather than starting a game.

“If you saw him coming off the bench and judged him on those appearances and what he does you’d give him a five-year deal.”

Carragher was talking as Origi entered the fray for Liverpool against Southampton tonight. Jurgen Klopp turned to the Belgian as he searched for a winning goal – and who better to find it? He’s one of the best pure match-winners you’ll ever see, after all.

But it does appear that Origi will depart soon. In fact, this may have been his farewell appearance.

Divock Origi leaving Liverpool

Origi’s contract expires this summer and it looks unlikely that he gets a new one. He just doesn’t play often enough reports in Italy suggest AC Milan want to give him a new home.

They’ll give him the first-team football that Origi almost certainly wants. At Liverpool, as Carragher says, he’s just a far better option as a substitute who can change the game. It’s exactly what Klopp tried tonight and it’s a tactic he’ll lose with Origi’s exit.

The forward is so good as that option, in fact, that we’d agree with Carragher that he’d be worth a five-year deal purely on that role. It’s just very unlikely that there’s the right value in such a contract – even with Origi’s obvious talent. Or even that he’d accept it.

It’s a difficult goodbye but a likely one – especially as Origi likely leaves for nothing. It was only a year ago that Liverpool wanted £20m for him. This one hurts for several reasons, then.
