Jurgen Klopp picked out one Tottenham Hotspur player who could really hurt Liverpool tomorrow. Harry Kane is in fine form.
Liverpool host Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow as they return their focus to the Premier League. What a massive game this is, too, as Antonio Conte attempts to derail the Reds’ title charge and boost his Champions League hopes.
In fact, this could well be the most difficult fixture Liverpool have left – in the league, anyway. Spurs are in good form and are particularly dangerous on the counter-attack.
That doesn’t mix wonderfully well with the Reds’ high line. Not well for Liverpool, anyway, and it’s clear that Jurgen Klopp has concerns going into this one.
“I mean, you think about how Tottenham wins the games, of course, they have a brilliant football team, but the way they set it up with the five and then offensively and defensively with the four and one, or with the two and three,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.
“Upfront, [they have] speed like crazy – Harry Kane, what a player, and obviously fits in that idea extremely well.
“There’s a blind understanding between them and these kinds of things, so I’d say it’s probably the biggest challenge for protection we face for a long time.”
Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool vs Tottenham
Klopp’s absolutely right to pick out Kane, here. He might not be the one with ‘speed like crazy’ but he’s absolutely the player who capitalises on it. The England man will attempt to drop into space and find his teammates ‘blind’, as the Liverpool boss puts it. He’ll also be the one getting into the box to finish moves.
But it’s not like Conte isn’t equally concerned about Liverpool. He talked about the Reds’ win over Villarreal in midweek and was just as impressed as Klopp.
There will be plenty of elite forwards on show tomorrow, then. We’ll just hope it’s the Red ones that come out on top.
