Report: Real Madrid will show off their Champions League final advantage this weekend that Liverpool can't match

Real Madrid will reportedly show of a major advantage this weekend that Liverpool can’t match. The two meet in the Champions League final.

This week saw both Liverpool and Real Madrid confirmed their places in the UEFA Champions League final. The Reds overcame a spirited Villarreal side at El Madrigal, while Los Blancos performed a minor miracle to knockout Manchester City. But that’s been their style in this competition.

And so the wait begins. Saturday marks three weeks until the final – a repeat of the 2018 edition and one that Liverpool players supposedly wanted.

Preparations start now, too, as Real Madrid will reportedly begin resting players this weekend. AS claim that as many as nine first-team players could sit out the derby with Atletico Madrid after an exhausting game with City.

The likes of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Vinicius Jr. and Casemiro can ‘catch their breath’, then.

Real have this luxury as they’re already confirmed as La Liga champions. Domestic games don’t really carry much weight for the rest of the season and anyone who needs rest can comfortably have it.

That’s not something Liverpool can match.

Liverpool, of course, have a Quadruple to chase. They’re trying to overhaul a rampant City side over the final four games, while there’s an FA Cup final against Chelsea next weekend.

Klopp can’t actually afford to rest players at all – he’s just got to rotate to get the best XI possible out for every game. It’s far from ideal when your Champions League final opponents can start resting players three weeks out.

But this is the curse of fighting on multiple fronts in an incredibly competitive title race. Real got lucky, after all, as they found no equal in Spain. Liverpool, on the other hand, will fight in every remaining fixture.
