Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool have an ‘unbelievable’ luxury ahead of their meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The Reds finally have some breathing space.
Liverpool return their attention to the Premier League on Saturday as they host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield. It was all about the Champions League in midweek, after all – the Reds beat Villarreal at El Madrigal to qualify for the final once again.
Amazingly, that was actually quite a while ago by Liverpool’s standards. They’ve had a near-four-day break between Villarreal and Spurs, which is something they rarely get.
Last week, for instance, Liverpool played Newcastle United at St James’ Park under 72 hours after hosting Villarreal. That was part of a hellacious week that also saw the Reds play a Merseyside derby.
This time around, though, they’ve had some breathing room. It’s something Jurgen Klopp is very, very happy about going into a massive game with Spurs – but it won’t last long.
“I actually think the challenge we faced in the last few weeks, playing at Newcastle was not an easy task, especially three days after we played Villarreal – between two Villarreal games – it was really not easy,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com.
“This time we have a day longer to prepare, which feels like a week holiday, to be honest. It’s unbelievable.
“It gives us the chance to prepare properly and not in a rush, but it’s only one time the case because then we play already Aston Villa on Tuesday night, so that’s clear.”
Jurgen Klopp prepares Liverpool to face Tottenham
As Klopp says, Liverpool have Aston Villa on Tuesday so it’ll be right back to the intense schedule. This break ahead of Spurs is a very welcome one, though.

In fact, this is probably Liverpool’s toughest remaining fixture in the Premier League. It’s the one you’d want the break for and the Reds can feel a little fortunate that it comes now and not last week. Hopefully, it makes all the difference in the title race this weekend.
