Arsene Wenger says Liverpool players Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are ‘monstrous’ in what they’re doing right now. The forward pair are showing incredible strength.
Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are shining for Liverpool at the moment as the Reds chase a historic season. With the EFL Cup already in the bag, the team still have three trophies to play for in May.
No one has ever gotten this far in chasing a Quadruple in England. It did feel as though the pursuit would come to an end last night, however, as a spirited Villarreal side made things difficult for Liverpool. The Spaniards forced a 2-0 half-time lead that cancelled out the Reds’ first-leg lead.
Fortunately, Liverpool turned things around in the second half as Jurgen Klopp changed things. Fabinho got the aggregate lead back after powering home from a Salah assist before Luis Diaz got a second one minutes later. Mané then capped off a made 12-minute spell for 3-2 on the night and 5-2 overall.
After the game, Arsene Wenger picked out both Salah and Mané for special praise. He believes the two Liverpool players are doing something ‘monstrous’ right now.
“Look at Salah and Mané, who played the Africa Nations Cup final,” he told beIN Sports. “What they have done since they have come back, it’s monstrous.
“We would have complained in Europe that we played too many games – never a word. Tonight, Mané has been kicked all over the place, never a word.”
Liverpool players continue to shine
It is truly incredible that they’re playing at such a high level. In fact, we think Mané is playing at an even higher level than he was before AFCON – that shouldn’t be possible.
Perhaps it all shouldn’t shock anyone, though. The two of them show ridiculous work ethic and fitness, allowing them to play this much football to an elite standard. And Liverpool need that.
The Reds have zero chance of further success this season without their long-time stars. It’s Salah and Mané who can provide the moments that deliver the biggest trophies, after all, as we saw last night.
