Liverpool saw their fixture list in full this week after a rearranged game. Their final three weeks now look unbelievably intense.
We’re nearly into May and Liverpool still harbour dreams of winning three more trophies. That’s to go with their EFL Cup, of course. It’s an intense undertaking as the Reds pretty much must win every remaining game.
And we now know just how intense after their final fixture list was confirmed on Wednesday. The FA Cup final prevented the game at Southampton from being played in its original slot and it’ll now happen the following Tuesday.
With that, Liverpool play five days before the final Premier League weekend. Manchester City, in contrast, will not.
Saturday, April 30th: Newcastle United (a)
Tuesday, May 2nd: Villarreal (a)
Saturday, May 7th: Tottenham Hotspur (h)
Tuesday, May 10th: Aston Villa (a)
Saturday, May 14th: Chelsea (FA Cup final)
Tuesday, May 17th: Southampton (a)
Sunday, May 22nd: Wolves (h)
Liverpool face incredible final three weeks of fixtures
This will be difficult. There’s essentially no rest in between games and Jurgen Klopp must manage his squad to perfection in order to navigate this.
As for standout games, that clash with Spurs looks tough. It comes right after a huge game against Villarreal and they’re the strongest Premier League game remaining – especially with the way Antonio Conte sets up.
It would be nice if Liverpool could prioritise one of these competitions but that’s simply not possible. They’ve got to fight on every front, with strong XIs in every game. This honestly could come down to injuries.
Any serious problems will cripple Liverpool, be they long-term injuries to stars or just a series of little issues to several players. It’s as intense a fixture list as you’ll ever see – anything short of perfection could be fatal in the Quadruple hunt.
