‘Imagine’: Jamie Redknapp claims 'quality' Man United player would be brilliant under Klopp at Liverpool

Jamie Redknapp believes Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is the right kind of manager to get the best out of Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United forward has stuttered.

Marcus Rashford isn’t quite the player many expected him to be at 24 – that’s for sure. The Manchester United star burst onto the scene back in early 2016, scoring some big goals immediately. As manager Louis van Gaal said at the time, he was an example of ‘quality’ being more important than age.

But Rashford hasn’t really kicked on since then and is largely the same player six years on. He’s had some decent seasons, certainly, but sits on just five goals this season.

So what’s the problem? Jamie Redknapp and Roy Keane discussed his problems on Sky Sports, suggesting he needs to find his ‘fire to kick on’. The right manager would help with that.

“He needs someone to light that fire again because I’ve not seen an improvement since he was 19 years of age,” said Redknapp.

“You do that yourself, Jamie. That comes from within,” said Keane.

“But I think you can coach that. Imagine he was with [Jurgen] Klopp or [Pep] Guardiola, the improvement he’d have made,” said Redknapp.

“There’s no doubt, obviously, because they’re world-class coaches,” replied Keane.

Marcus Rashford and Liverpool

There is absolutely no doubt here that Rashford would be a far superior player if he wasn’t playing at the club where talent goes to die. You look at Liverpool and the improvements made by their stars and it’s very easy to see how Rashford would be a better player.

Interestingly, Liverpool reportedly see it that way, too. The Manchester Evening News claim that the Reds have made it known that they’d like to sign Rashford when his contract expires in 2023. Now we can’t imagine that actually comes to pass – but no harm in trying, right?

We think he’d be a tremendous if unlikely signing. Because, unquestionably, Rashford could become the star many predicted he’d if he worked under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
