'Go back and watch': Jurgen Klopp is convinced 'outstanding' player is having his best season for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp hailed Naby Keita on Wednesday and believes people should go back and watch his games for Liverpool this season. The Guinean is having his best season yet.

It’s nearly four years since Naby Keita first joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig. He arrived with a massive reputation as one of the Bundesliga’s best players. In fact, most people believe Keita would stamp his authority on the Reds’ midfield, becoming a key player.

That hasn’t really happened. Keita has been in and out of the side ever since arriving, with injuries and form disrupting his time at Anfield. He certainly hasn’t claimed a first-XI berth for himself and has, at times, slipped down the pecking order.

This season, though, we’re seeing the best of Keita. He’s put in some of his best performances for the club – in massive games, too. Jurgen Klopp, in fact, believes Liverpool’s no.8 is indeed having his best-ever season for the club.

“Yes, it is his best season because he is, for the longest period, fit – and that’s good for us, that’s good for him,” he said, per Liverpoolfc.com. “He is an outstanding player and that was always clear.

“Even in other seasons when he was not that consistently fit, he played incredible games. If you go back and watch our big games, you will realise how often Naby was on the pitch in these games.

“A very good, very good, moment for him.”

Naby Keita for Liverpool

As Klopp says, the key this season has been staying fit. Keita has been an option virtually all campaign and that makes a huge difference. He is, after all, a player who requires rhythm to play well.

Some of Keita’s performances have been truly outstanding, too. We’d pick out the 5-0 win at Old Trafford and the 3-1 win in Lisbon against Benfica as the absolute best. They’re games where we truly saw everything Keita can bring to the team.

And Klopp’s right – both were in massive games where Liverpool picked up decisive results. Keita at his best unquestionably adds a wonderful dimension to the team. Hopefully, as the Reds chase more trophies, we can add a couple more performances like that to end the season.
