'Fabulous': BT Pundits agree on Liverpool's 'best front three' thanks to one player's 'absolutely outstanding' form

BT Sport’s pundits agreed on Wednesday that Liverpool have a clear ‘best front three’ right now. The Reds certainly have options up top.

What is Liverpool’s best front three right now? The Reds have more options up top than they’ve ever had before, with at least five world-class talents. They can’t play them all, however, with Jurgen Klopp almost always sticking with three.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino are the ‘classic’ trio, of course. They’re the ones who delivered the major successes over the last few years but Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have stepped up since.

It’s a conversation BT Sport’s pundits gave their thoughts on as they previewed Liverpool vs Villarreal. For Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen, there’s a new best three. That’s largely down to Mané and his transition to a False 9.

“[Mané’s] just a fabulous player,” said Hargreaves. “The ability for Klopp to rotate and play different players, I think Mané is one of those.

“Whether it’s off, back in the day, off the right, off the left but as a False 9 he’s amazing. He comes deep, Diaz drifts in off the left-hand side and Mo Salah is often the furthest forward. But Mané’s form has been absolutely outstanding.

“[Michael Owen] mentioned this is their best front three and I think so, as well. They offer so much, they’re all so different and there’s so much quality in there.”

Liverpool’s best front three

It’s an interesting one. For starters, leaving out Jota is incredibly difficult, given his goalscoring form this season. Firmino, too, can lay claim to retaining his place as his track record remains the most successful.

But we’ll agree with Owen and Hargreaves on the current form. Mané, certainly, has been absolutely outstanding in recent weeks.

His move inside allows for Diaz to take that left-sided slot, where he’s probably a slightly better fit out wide than Jota. Klopp certainly seems to agree, picking the Salah, Mané, Diaz trio in every big game recently. But let’s be honest – form could change the ‘best’ at any time.

Liverpool are blessed with a remarkable array of talent and any three of their options can win any game.
