'There is no chance': Klopp says Liverpool will not repeat Bayern Munich's major mistake

Jurgen Klopp says there’s ‘no chance’ that Liverpool repeat Bayern Munich’s mistake against Villarreal tomorrow night. The Bavarians suffered a shock quarter-final exit.

Liverpool host Villarreal in a UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg tomorrow night. It’s a massive game, of course – but also a surprising one. No one expected the Spaniards to get this far, given they’ve faced both Juventus and Bayern Munich in the previous two rounds.

But Unai Emery guided his side through both ties. They’re now in their first Champions League semi-final since 2006 and they’ll be feeling confident of another upset win.

Jurgen Klopp, however, sees ‘no chance’ that Villarreal face the same type of game as they did against Bayern and Juventus when they visit Liverpool.

They are made for this competition, to be 100 per cent honest, because of the way they set it up,” he told a pre-match press conference. “It’s really, really good.

“I think there might have been a little advantage in the last two games, where Juve or maybe Bayern underestimated them – but that never happened to us, these kinds of things.

“Especially after these four games, there is no chance anymore, so this little advantage might have gone. But apart from that, they still are a really, really good football team who obviously wants to make history as well.”

Liverpool vs Villarreal

It’s not the first time that Liverpool meet Villarreal in a European semi-final, of course. The two sides clashed in the Europa League semis back in Klopp’s first season.

The Reds went through 3-1 on aggregate that time around, winning 3-0 at Anfield. A repeat performance tomorrow night would be a dream.

So with that in mind, Klopp’s words here are vital. Liverpool won’t hold any expectation of an easy tie – they know full well that Villarreal can beat anyone. There’s simply no excuse for being caught off-guard.
