Liverpool may need to sell players in order to be in with a shot of bringing Darwin Nunez to Anfield this summer.
That’s according to AS, who claim that The Reds’ are one of four Premier League clubs looking to bring Nunez to England.
Whereas Manchester United lead the race, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool are also in the picture. However, it’s claimed that The Reds pursuit is ‘conditioned by possible departures.’
Mohamed Salah is named as being a player who could be sold in order to make way for the Benfica man.
Nunez on Liverpool’s radar
Liverpool’s interest in Nunez has been reported as far back as last October (The Daily Star).
More recently, Sky Sports journalist Melissa Reddy claimed that the player had been ‘looked at for a long time’ by Liverpool.

That was ahead of The Reds Champions League tie with Benfica. Although Liverpool progressed relatively comfortably, Nunez enhanced his reputation even further across the two legs.
The 22-year-old scored in both the home and away legs of the quarter-final. Even more than that though, he was a constant threat to Ibrahima Konate in particular throughout the games.
This led to public compliments from Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool boss said via Liverpool FC on YouTube that Nunez had ‘a big career ahead of him’ after the trouble he gave Konate.
What about Salah
It seems thoroughly plausible that Liverpool would be interested in Nunez. Anyone who watched the two games he played against The Reds could see that he would fit into Klopp’s team.
However, the secret is now out. The forward has truly announced himself to the top clubs around Europe. 33 goals in 39 games this season is one of the best records on the continent.
With that in mind, it seems that Liverpool will be priced out of a move for Nunez. Klopp currently has five world-class options at his disposal up-front.
Yes, Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane’s futures are up in the air at the moment. But judging by Salah’s comments in FourFourTwo last week, he is fully expecting to be at Liverpool next season.
Benfica are said to favour an early sale of Nunez this summer (The Athletic). That would mean that when Liverpool really do need a new forward, next year, it will be too late.
The Reds may yet move to bolster their attacking options further with a sensational plan to sign Nunez. But there’s simply no chance that part of that plan will involve selling Salah.
