'Unbelievable': Klopp says four Liverpool stars are the 'strongest players ever' that he's left out of a squad

Jurgen Klopp says four Liverpool stars who didn’t face Everton are the ‘strongest players ever’ left out of his squad. The Reds have incredible strength in depth right now.

Jurgen Klopp oversaw a 2-0 Merseyside derby win for Liverpool on Sunday – and it took a deep squad to do it. The Reds’ boss switched things up beautifully to earn the points after a pretty terrible first 45.

A double substitution stole the show. Klopp introduced both Luis Diaz and Divock Origi in the second half, with the two combining for the second goal. Origi, in fact, played a role in the first.

It’s a fantastic example of the depth at Liverpool right now, with two game-changing players coming off the bench. Jordan Henderson was the third sub, to further the example, while James Milner, Kostas Tsimikas, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez played no part at all.

And going even further are the players who didn’t even make the squad. Klopp was quick to point that out after the game – he had at least four players that were unfortunately left out. The strongest four, he says, he’s ever left out.

Jurgen Klopp on the Liverpool squad

“The group lives because of these boys,” he told Sky Sports. “They are the strongest players ever – ever, ever, ever – that I didn’t have in a squad.

“Harvey Elliott is in brilliant shape, didn’t make the squad today. Takumi Minamino, unbelievable. [Alex] Oxalde-Chamberlain, unbelievable. Even Rhys Williams is in really good shape.

“They didn’t make the squad and that’s hard but how they behave and they keep their mood up shows why we are able to do these kinds of things.”

It’s absolutely true. Elliott is unquestionably good enough to play regularly in the Premier League, as are Minamino and Oxlade-Chamberlain. These are players who have provided fantastic football this season, in big games.

Even Williams, back from his loan with Swansea City, showed last season that he can start regularly for Liverpool. This is truly a sensational squad right now and, somehow, Klopp continues to keep them happy.
