Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Everton have a player who is ‘one of the best’ in his position in England. He’ll miss the derby, though.
Jurgen Klopp had some very high praise for Dominic Calvert-Lewin when assessing Everton this week. It’s the Merseyside derby tomorrow, of course, and journalists were keen to hear what the Liverpool boss thought of his opponents.
Everton are currently suffering through their worst season in nearly 30 years. There’s a genuine threat of relegation, with just one point separating them from the drop zone. They do have a game in hand, however.
From Klopp’s point of view, though, they have been unfortunate. The fact they haven’t been able to use Calvert-Lewin very often is an example of that – the Liverpool boss sees him as one of the best around.
“If you cannot use Calvert-Lewin for almost a whole season, it’s a massive blow,” he told a press conference on Friday. “He’s one of the best strikers in England, for sure.”
Liverpool vs Everton
Everton really haven’t been able to use Calvert-Lewin this season – he’s only featured in 1003 minutes across the Premier League. That’s a little over 11 games’ worth, severely limiting what the Toffees can do.

As a result, they haven’t been able to rely on his goals and their biggest goal-threat has just three this season. That’s a long way from the 16 he managed in the last campaign.
And, naturally, Everton will be without Calvert-Lewin again tomorrow. Frank Lampard ruled him out of the game earlier this week – a thigh problem won’t be overcome in time.
With Liverpool definitely boasting a strong XI at Anfield, Everton are going to struggle without him. The Reds surely can’t let this one slip as everything continues to go their way.
