Gary Lineker has claimed on BeanymanSports Youtube channel that he has Manchester City, not Liverpool, down as his favourite to win the Premier League this season.
The Match of the Day host was attending the Premier League Hall of Fame Ceremony last night when he was asked for his views on the title race.
“These two teams are unbelievably good and they’re just so consistent,” Lineker said. “In fact, they’re so consistent that I’m not sure either of them will drop a point, in which case obviously City will win. But in this league you never know, because every game throws up something.”
Lineker thinks that although Liverpool will win every one of their six remaining games, Pep Guardiola’s side will match them.
“Looking at the run-ins, I think City are probably favourite, but the way Liverpool are playing at the moment I don’t think they’re going to drop a point, so City will have to win every game which I think was similar to 2018/19,” he said. “I think it could be a similar finale.”
Let’s hope not, Gary. The run-in for the 18/19 season was absolutely excruciating for Liverpool fans. The difference this time is that whereas three years ago it was Liverpool who had let a healthy lead at the top slip, this time it’s City who have wobbled.
Anyway, The Reds put their disappointment to one side and lifted the Champions League trophy in Madrid. If things did go a similar way this season, it would be hard to be too upset.

City would have been hoping that Manchester United could have done them a favour at Anfield on Tuesday night. On paper, the game was one of Liverpool’s toughest remaining fixtures.
The Reds came through it with ease, though. It just goes to show that in the Premier League, you can never take any result for granted.
Although City’s remaining fixtures do look far easier to win, things are rarely that straightforward.
It’s draining for any team’s fans to have their fate out of their own hands. Hoping for this City team to drop points only pays off only a handful of times each season. More often than not, you’re going to be left frustrated.
All Liverpool fans can do is keep enjoying the ride and see where it ends up. This season has been remarkable however it finishes.
Now, let’s cross everything that our old mate Roy can take something off City for Watford tomorrow.
