Frank Lampard confirmed on Wednesday that Everton suffered an early blow to their plans for the Liverpool game this weekend. The Toffees just can’t catch a break.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was ruled out of Everton’s meeting with Leicester City with a quad injury, says Frank Lampard. Even worse for Everton is that the injury will keep their him out of the Merseyside derby this weekend, too.

“Dominic felt a small sensation in his quad in training,” said Lampard, per the Liverpool Echo. “We scanned it and it’s 10 days to two weeks, unfortunately, so we’ll miss him for these next couple of games, for sure.

“He’ll possibly be back for Chelsea.”

Calvert-Lewin has struggled with problems this season and now he has another one. Those injuries have limited the 25-year-old to only three goals this season – a far cry from the 16 he managed in the last campaign.

For what will be a difficult game anyway, Everton can’t catch a break.

Liverpool vs Everton

Well, at this point, anything other than a massive win will seem disappointing. This is quite comfortably the worst Everton side since the mid-90s and the gap to Liverpool had never been greater. Ever.

The Reds go into this on the back of a win over Manchester City and a 4-0 demolition of Manchester United at Anfield. This would complete the North-West set – and we do expect Liverpool to do it in style.

Everton are a terrible team in poor form and now they’re lacking one of their few players who can actually hurt Liverpool. While derbys aren’t always simple to predict, the Reds can feel more confident about this game than any Merseyside derby in recent memory.

There really aren’t any excuses for anything other than a confident, complete victory. Liverpool will surely deliver.
