Didi Hamann says even being in contention for the Quadruple shows how ‘brilliant’ this Liverpool team truly is. Now they just have to do it.
Just how impressive is this Liverpool side? They saw off Benfica in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final last night, putting them into a semi-final tie with Villarreal. The EFL Cup is already in the bag, of course, and there’s an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on Saturday.
And then the Premier League – the Reds sit just one point back in the race with City. It’s possible that everything blows up in their face and they finish with just the EFL Cup, of course, but there’s also that Quadruple chance.
No team has ever done it (though, admittedly, most countries lack a second domestic cup competition to make it possible) and Liverpool could make incredible history this season. Former Red Dietmar Hamann sees it that way and believes the mere possibility of the quadruple shows how ‘brilliant’ this team is.
“I’m not sure whether it’s realistic but to be in mid-April and still have the chance to win all four trophies shows what a brilliant side they are,” he told Sky Sports. “They’re just great to watch. They’ve got a unity and a togetherness like I’ve never seen before and obviously they’ve got some very talented players in their side.
“I think it would be historical. They’ve got a long way to go but I don’t think it’ll ever be done again.
“No team’s done it yet, Liverpool could be the first one and if they were to do it, I think, without a question, it would be the greatest achievement not just in English football but internationally, as well.”
Liverpool and the Quadruple
Well, Hamann is right – we have no idea how realistic it is. Winning all four trophies is a ridiculous dream and there’s a reason no one has ever done it.

So to sit here in April and have it remain a possibility is quite ridiculous. The consistency in this Liverpool team is unbelievable at times and as Hamann points out, their unity is quite something.
They have the quality to win every trophy, of course – that’s abundantly clear. Honestly, they just need the luck. They need these one-and-done knockout games to fall their way and City must drop points in at least one more game.
Zero craziness and Liverpool might just do it – but even then, it’s a big ask.
