Xherdan Shaqiri loved former Liverpool teammate Kostas Tsimikas’ display against Benfica last night.
Shaqiri, who now plays for MLS side Chicago Fire, took to the Greek’s Instagram page to show his appreciation after the game.
The Swiss simply wrote “broski” complete with clapping emoji. Shaqiri also included two fire emojis, perhaps each symbolising one of Tsimiaks’ delightful assists.
Also in the comments were Liverpool players Thiago Alcantara and Adrian. Thiago commented with the succinct hashtag ‘KostasDelivery’, while Adrian, ever a supportive presence, wrote ‘on fire my musakita.’
We’re not sure what that means, but it sounds good!
Tsimikas comes to the party
After a sparkling start to the season, Tsimikas has seen his game time reduced a little over recent months. As the games have got bigger for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has kept faith in his first-choice left-back, Andy Robertson.
Last night though, the ‘Greek Scouser’ was trusted from the start against Benfica on a big night at Anfield. He didn’t disappoint.
Aside from his two assists, he was excellent throughout. Defensively solid and an ever willing outlet in the Liverpool attack, Tsimikas was the best player on the pitch.
And what about those deliveries. The first is hung up beautifully for Ibrahima Konate to steer home. But his whipped free-kick to pick out Roberto Firmino at the back post to seal the tie was even better.
Keeping hold of Kostas
Putting in these kind of performances, as he often has done this season, it may be hard to convince him to remain at Anfield to continue as an understudy.
Although the 25-year-old seems settled and accepting of his role within the team, there’s no doubt that he would be a nailed on starter for many top teams across Europe.
His first season on Merseyside was badly disrupted by injury. Now that we’re seeing what Tsimikas is all about though, he has proven to be yet another success story of Liverpool’s scouting department.
