Report: Liverpool have been monitoring ex-Arsenal player that Arteta really liked, says he has ‘big personality’

Liverpool are looking at former Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to reports. The Spaniard struggles for games with Real Madrid.

This comes from FCInterNews. They claim that Liverpool are one of a few clubs currently monitoring Dani Ceballos. Inter, unsurprisingly, lead the potential race but the Reds have eyes on the 25-year-old.

Ceballos will almost certainly move in the summer after struggling to play with Real Madrid this season. In fact, he hasn’t started a single game and his combined substitute appearances total 62 minutes in La Liga.

He is starting to feature a little more recently, admittedly. Ceballos even got off the bench against Chelsea this week – but only for the final five minutes of extra time.

It’s hard to believe that any club would struggle to convince Real to sell this summer and, perhaps, Liverpool will take advantage.

Liverpool want Dani Ceballos

We’ll take this one with a major pinch of salt. Ceballos doesn’t really fit the bill for Liverpool right now, unless they fancy trying a real salvage job.

Ceballos is clearly very talented but it’s some years now since we’ve seen it. His time with Arsenal was hit-and-miss and the midfielder hasn’t actually started 20 league games in a season since his Real Betis days – and that was 2017.

Mikel Arteta was a fan, though, despite not using him from the start all that often. He sees Ceballos as someone with a ‘big personality’.

“I know him really well from Spain,” he told Goal back in 2020. “I watched him many, many times. He always wants the ball, he has big personality to play. I like him.”

But again, we’re going back a little ways here. Liverpool would only have room for another midfielder if one or two moved on, too, and there’s little chance of Ceballos ever being a first-choice player.

So as we say, a pinch of salt.
